The Master Trainer Diesel Maintenance will report to the Director of Organizational Development & Training. This position will help identify and develop creative approaches and techniques to maximize the effectiveness of the learning process for transit bus technicians (mechanics) and further implement that concept.
This position will also require assessing company-wide technical (mechanical) training needs, designing and developing customized learning solutions, creating efficient implementation plans, conducting impact level evaluation including “business case” metrics that track overall performance improvement and justifying investment, facilitating maintenance training sessions, providing maintenance “train the trainer” with the goal of certifying internal technical trainers, ensuring high quality and maintaining high standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct technical training needs assessment and develop training plans that support the strategic direction of the Technical Solutions leadership.
Consult with appropriate field and management staff to confirm program objectives, operational procedures and system/program constraints.
Identify and recommend instructional design that best fits the media, audience and culture. Recommend best and most efficient deployment methods.
Assist with the design and coordinate instructional document preparation, teaching outlines, the selection of teaching aids such as materials, handbooks, models, visual aids, reference work, etc.
Develop evaluation strategies that measure reaction, learning and impact levels including “business case” metrics that track overall performance improvement and justifying investment decisions.
Provide coaching to local shop management regarding management support necessary to support transfer of skills from the “classroom” to the job.
Develop and coach others to participate as field trainers in train the trainer initiatives – certify technical trainers (in target disciplines).
Facilitate and deliver training to Technicians on technical subjects.
Maintain understanding of new technical practices, significant environmental trends and applicable research on specific topic areas namely: new hybrids, multiple fuel types, street car PMI, ASE certification levels, etc.
Provide facilitation expertise to maintenance training groups at management meetings and at team workshops.
Test trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training.
Provide Director with feedback and recommendations regarding program delivery needs, process improvements as well as report key areas of success and concerns from the field.
Any other training projects as assigned by the Director of Organizational Development of Training.
Job Requirements
ASE Certified in Transit Bus series; Master Certification preferred
Bachelor’s degree – major in adult education strong preference
Willingness and ability to travel 70% of the time
Willingness to provide maintenance training over the weekend as requested
608 and 609 certifications preferred
A minimum of 5 years experience at a supervisory/managerial level
Broad and strong technical knowledge of the transit maintenance training field
Strong track record of credible, close consultation with operating leaders to support learning initiatives that drive business results
Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees
Conducting training needs assessment
Developing curriculum
Assessing required technical competencies
Knowledge of using blended learning effectively as a mechanism for training delivery
High-level understanding and working knowledge in the following areas: engines, diesel engines, rive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), and preventative maintenance and inspection, alternative fuels (compressed natural gas) and hybrid vehicles
Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change
Technology aptitude and functional experience with Microsoft suite of products and multi-media delivery tools
Knowledge of adult learning theory (Experiential Learning Cycle) and instructional design
Self-directed individual with a customer service orientation
Outstanding verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills
Strong planning, organizational skills, initiative and creativity
Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
